Hoffman charged with battery to an officer

Jesse J. Hoffman, 24, Manawa, was charged with battery to an officer, resisting an officer and disorderly conduct.

Shortly before 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14, Waupaca County Sheriff’s deputies Brian Strobusch and Kevin Studzinski were dispatched to a home on Spring Creek Road in the town of Little Wolf to arrest Hoffman for allegedly violating the terms of his extended supervision.

Hoffman was convicted of felony sexual assault of a child in July 2007. He was sentenced to two years in state prison, followed by seven years of extended supervision. He is a registered sex offender and lives with his parents.

According to the criminal complaint, Hoffman had been in bed at the time the officers arrived. When he came to the door, he was reported to be wearing box shorts.

The officers told Hoffman that they were taking him into custody on a probation hold. Hoffman said he needed to put his clothes on and returned into the house.

The officers followed him into the house. Hoffman’s parents began arguing with the deputies, telling them to leave their son alone, according to the criminal complaint. Strobusch attempted to verbally control the parents, while Studzinski was trying to arrest Hoffman. He then placed Hoffman in handcuffs.

Hoffman’s mother tried to help dress him, but Hoffman allegedly refused to cooperate unless the handcuffs were removed.

Studzinski then attempted to escort Hoffman, dressed only in his shorts, to the squad car. Hoffman reportedly tried to pull away and both Studzinski and Hoffman fell to the living room floor. A physical altercation ensued during which Hoffman kicked Studzinski, the complaint says.

As Hoffman ran toward his bedroom, Studzinski brought him down by firing his Taser at him.

Hoffman faces up to six years in prison if convicted of battery to an officer.
