I never thought that I would agree with anything Greg Oerter wrote about, but last week his letter was right about how federal spending needs to be cut.
There is absolutely no reason for our government to pay those outrageous prices for snacks at conferences.
Imagine how many hungry children right here in the states could be fed with that money.
Oerter speaks of all the money we’re giving away to other countries. I also wonder why we need all the foreign bases. The Cold War is long over. We have spy satellites over every continent. So, why do we need “boots on the ground” other than to support the military-industrial complex?
Remember, the Soviet Union protected themselves right out of exsistence with unaffordable weapon systems and foreign adventures. We are well on the way to joining them in the dustbin of history.
These are the areas that we should be examining for spending cuts, rather than the social safety net.
