Nelson, Dr. Robert J.

Dr. Robert J. (Knobby) Nelson DVM, age 85, of Waupaca, WI passed away suddenly on Monday, October 24, 2011 at Theda Clark Regional Medical Center in Neenah. Knobby was born in the Town of Lind, Waupaca County on September 7, 1926, the son of the late James and Ella (Danielsen) Nelson. He served in the US Marines during WW II. On June 27, 1954, Knobby married Ellen Collopy in Eagle Grove, Iowa. He owned & operated the Lakeside Animal Hospital in Whitefish Bay for 40 years. He is a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Waupaca. Knobby spent his life giving back to the community through his various volunteer activities. He dearly loved his family and involved family and friends in all his passions which included woodworking, fishing and gardening. Knobby is survived by his wife: Ellen Nelson, Waupaca; his sons: Kip (Nancy) Nelson, Seattle, WA and Kurt Nelson, Wauwatosa, WI; his daughter-in-law: Karen Nelson, Lake Oswego, OR; his six grandchildren: Stephanie Nelson; Brianna Nelson; Robert Nelson; Natalie Nelson; Jennifer and Ellen Nelson; his brother: Carlton (Erma) Jensen, Waupaca; his sister: Evelyn Klug, West Allis and nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Knobby was preceded in death by his parents, a son James and a daughter in law, Lynn. The Memorial Service will be on Saturday, Nov. 5 at 11 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waupaca with Reverend Dr. Charles Tews, officiating. Burial will be in the Lakeside Memorial Park, Waupaca. Visitation will be on Saturday morning from 10 to 11 AM at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Trinity Lutheran Church. Holly Funeral Home of Waupaca is assisting the family with arrangements.
