Thundercatz fall to Lions in playoff game

Marion/Tigerton ran into trouble against the defending state champion Brillion Lions on Friday, Oct. 25, during their Level 2 playoff game.

The Thundercatz lost 44-9.

The Lions scored on a field goal and two passing touchdowns to jump out to a 17-0 lead before a Cole Drefahl field goal put Marion/Tigerton on the board. Brillion scored the next four touchdowns to put the game out of reach. Adam Mielke had a 13-yard touchdown run for the Thundercatz to round out the scoring.

Mielke rushed 28 times for 109 yards and one touchdown. Freeman Beechy had two receptions for 31 yards, while he also recovered a fumble on defense.

“We had some chances early in the first half, but we didn’t execute good enough against a quality team. We played well at times, but the big plays hurt us. They had great team speed on offense which lends itself to big plays,” said Coach Mark Fredy. “On defense they had numerous people getting to the ball quick. They were the better team overall and the Thundercatz gave everything they had. I was extremely proud of the effort. This team never quit at all this season. We ended the season 8-3 overall and have a lot to be proud of looking back at this season. Our seniors will be missed: Brady Detert, Zach Zimmerman, Adam Mielke, Gunner Kopitzke, Austin Vos, Freeman Beechy, Isaiah Nordeng, Michael Wegner, Billy Koepke, and Andy Schley. They had a great four years playing some quality football.”
