Stopping for School Buses

The Waupaca Police Department would like to remind motorists that they must stop no closer than 20 feet from a stopped school bus that is displaying a stop arm and flashing red lights when loading or unloading students on public roadways. The vehicle shall remain stopped until the bus resumes motion or the operator extinguishes the flashing red warning lights. This required does NOT apply to a divided highway which is defined as a highway with 2 or more roadways separated by spaces not intended for the use of vehicular traffic. Motorists violating this law is subject to a fine of $326.50.
