Magdanz, Elna I.

Elna I. Magdanz, age 91, of Waupaca, passed away, following a short illness, on Friday, November 11, 2011 at Appleton Medical Center. Elna was born on May 1, 1920, in the Town of Saxeville, the second of six children to the late Henry and Leona (Hertzfeld) Magdanz. She was a baptized and confirmed, life-long member of Emmaus Lutheran Church in the Town of Lind. Elna graduated from Waupaca High School in 1938 and later went on to work for Home Federal Bank in Chicago, before retiring in 1985. In 2000, Elna moved back to Waupaca, where she was currently residing. Elna had a unique gift of knitting and crocheting.She enjoyed making tablecloths, afghans, and sweaters. She also knitted blankets and booties for the newborns at the local hospitals. Elna is survived by two sisters, LaVera Stauss, Kiel, WI; and Sylvia(Karleton)Borchardt, Menasha; and a brother, Albert Magdanz, Mauston, WI; many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and many dear friends. Besides her parents, Elna was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Viona(Edwin) Biese, a sister, Irma Buchholtz, a brother-in-law, LeRoy Stauss, and a sister-in-law, Shirley Magdanz. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Emmaus Lutheran Church, N180 County Rd. A, Waupaca. Rev. H. William Jordan officiated. Burial is in Oakwood Cemetery, Weyauwega. Visitation was held on Tuesday, at the church from 9:00 AM until the time of service. A memorial fund has been established for Emmaus Lutheran Church.
