W-F students collect candy

The student council members sponsored and organized a Halloween Candy Drive at both schools as a service project.

The students asked each elementary classroom to collect any extra or unwanted Halloween candy for one week.

During the first week of November, members of the student councils then spent their daily recess time collecting, counting and weighing the donated candy.

More than 400 pounds of candy were collected and donated to Operation Gratitude, a program that sends care packages to deployed military.

Student council members are already planning to sponsor another candy drive next year, with the hope of collecting more candy.

Student council is an organization for fourth and fifth-grade students at both schools who are interested in leadership, service and volunteerism.

Kris Sroka, a fifth grade teacher at Fremont Elementary, and Ellen Storck, a school counselor, advise the groups.
