Pulaski Red Raiders stop Truckers in season opener

A historic night for Trucker basketball began with a ceremony to dedicate the court to former Coach Carl Bruggink.

After the christening of the court as “Carl Bruggink Court”, the Truckers faced off against the Red Raiders in a non-conference season opener for both teams.

Both teams got off to a hot start, scoring 17 points each in the first quarter. The scoring pace cooled a bit in the second quarter, as both teams scored 11 to go into halftime with a 28-28 tie.

Pulaski came out scalding hot in the third quarter, putting up 21 points to the Truckers’ 12. At the end of three, the Red Raiders led 49-40.

The Red Raiders held the Truckers to just four points in the fourth quarter while scoring 14 of their own to capture the win by a final margin of 63-44.

John Schultz led all Truckers with 19 points. Schultz kept the Truckers in the game with his white-hot shooting from beyond the 3-point arc, making five shots from long range.

Xavier Fletcher scored 18 for the Truckers, while Aaron Ziemer added three, and Kolin Kubitz and Aaron Schmidt each scored two.

The Truckers play at home Monday, Dec. 12 at 7:15 against Freedom.
