Foxes nip Lady Truckers

The Fox Valley Lutheran (FVL) Foxes were too much for the Lady Truckers to handle on Tuesday, Dec. 6. The Foxes handed the Truckers a 25-56 defeat.

Clintonville stayed close in the first quarter, as the score was 11-9 in favor of FVL at the end of the first frame. The Foxes pulled away in the second quarter, outscoring Clintonville 25-6. The Foxes added to their lead in the third and fourth quarter to seal the victory.

Hailey Sorenson led the Truckers with five points. Brittany Hoffman added four, while Dayna Seymour and Darcy Knaack each scored 3. Markiesa Westphal, Stacy Reinke and Lauren Pugh each scored two; Allison Shepard and Miranda Hagberg both added one point.

The Truckers were 10 of 31 (32 percent) from the floor and 2 of 10 (20 percent) from 3-point range. The Truckers made 3 of 8 (37 percent) of their free throw tries.

Clintonville had 16 rebounds, compared to FVL’s 14; however, Clintonville committed 26 turnovers, while FVL had just 10. The Foxes had nine steals, while the Truckers picked six.

FVL outscored Clintonville 32-6 in the paint, and the Foxes’ bench outscored Clintonville’s bench, 12-10.

“FVL is a very solid team and we had a hard time controlling the basketball against their pressure defense. Brittany Hoffman had a great first quarter for us, scoring six points and hitting a shot at the buzzer to keep us within two of the Foxes,” said Coach Jennifer Soldner. “Heidi Krause and Miranda Hagberg came off the bench and played excellent defense. Hailey Sorenson and Darcy Knaack also came off the bench and each hit a key bucket to keep things alive.”

The Lady Trucks play at home on Tuesday, Dec. 20, against Winneconne. The opening tip is scheduled for 7:15 p.m.
