Smith, Ronald H.

Ronald H. Smith, age 69, of Weyauwega, passed away on Saturday, December 10, 2011 at the Weyauwega Health Care Center, due to complications from a brain tumor. He was born on April 24, 1942, in New London, WI, the son of the late Verna and Herman Smith. Ron served in the Army Federal Reserve for 6 years. On January 11, 1969, Ron married Susan Fox at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fremont. Ron owned and operated Smith’s Modern Garage in Fremont, where he was able to work with his father, Herman, for 30 years. He also did snow-plowing for the Village of Fremont for many years. Ron was especially fond of wood-working and was a great- handy-man. He was especially fond of his 23 acre prairie and loved working on his lawnmowers. Ron had a great sense of humor and was always willing to help anyone that needed help, especially his family and neighbors. He never said a bad word about anyone and never judged anyone. Ron was loved by all and will be greatly missed by many people, including the neighbors that heard his outside Christmas music. Ron also had a great fondness for his dogs “Daisy and Little Bit” and he loved feeding the birds. Ron is survived by his wife, Susan; a daughter, Lisa; a grandson, Zach; a sister, Shirley Kulzick; his mother-in-law, Elizabeth Fox; four brothers-in-law: Paul, Charles and Michael Fox, and Mike Wendling; a brother-in-law, Roy (Ileta) Luedtke; five sisters-in-law, Nancy Nowland, Julie Wendling, Darlene Loeb, Christine Gack and Donna Schmidt; an aunt, Norma Thews; special friends, Arlyn Schuelke, Linda Schuelke and Duane Hannemann; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by a sister, LaMae Luedtke and his father-in-law, Charles Fox. A memorial gathering honoring Ron’s life was held on Wednesday, December 14, 2011 from 1:00 pm to 4:00 PM at Ron’s home, N296 Hwy 49, Weyauwega. To My Dad, Dad, you have helped Zach and I so much in every way. I cannot express my appreciation of how much you have done for us. Zach and I will always love you! -Lisa

Ron, Even though you had schizophrenia, you were more sane than most people. Your long, hard struggle never let you stop you from doing anything. Your courage should be inspiring to others. You saved my life many times following diabetic insulin reactions. I will always love you! -Sue
