Iola-Scandinavia and Amherst went into the second quarter of their Central Wisconsin 8 Conference girls’ basketball matchup tied at 12-12.
The final three quarters belonged to Amherst, however, as the Falcons returned home with a 72-32 win.
I-S also fell to Shiocton 41-30 Tuesday, Dec. 13.

IOLA – The Falcons outscored the T-Birds 23-7 in the second quarter, 18-8 in the third and 19-5 in the fourth.
Amherst took control of the game by scoring the first 18 points of the second quarter and led 35-19 at halftime.
A 12-4 run to open the third quarter pushed the lead to 24 points and the T-Birds never got any closer than 22 the rest of the way.
One look at the game statistics and it’s easy to see how the Falcons got the win. They hit 30 of 57 shots and nine of 10 free throws, while the T-Birds were 13 of 42 from the floor and four of eight from the line. Amherst also took advantage of 27 T-Bird turnovers, with several of them leading to easy baskets, and dished out 18 assists.
Elle Maus and Brooke Phillips led the T-Birds with eight points each. Katy Rutz led Amherst with 14 points, while Marisa Loken added 13 and Hannah Grawey and Margaret Eddy also finished in double figures with 10 each.
Amherst improved to 2-0 in the CWC-8 and 4-1 overall, while I-S fell to 0-2 and 0-4, respectively.
Shiocton 41, I-S 30
SHIOCTON – The first and third quarters turned out to be the downfall for the T-Birds against the Chiefs, as they were held scoreless in both periods.
Shiocton led 12-0 after one quarter before I-S closed the gap to 21-14 at halftime. Any momentum the T-Birds had heading into the second half didn’t last long, as the Chiefs shut out the visitors 12-0 in the third quarter to take a 33-14 lead into the final eight minutes.
The T-Birds outscored Shiocton 16-8 in the fourth quarter.
Phillips had 11 points to lead the T-Birds, while Nicole Ritchie led the Chiefs with 11.
