Subject: Tax burden story:
Dear Mr. Walker My name is Todd Spink, I live in the township of Iola where my wife and I have owned our home since 2001. We saw our taxes double in 2002, and increase by a large percentage again in 2003, in 2004 they came around and re-assessed our property and the value increased (with no appreciable improvements) exponentially.
In 2005 we lost our agricultural property status (even though we owned cattle, and goats, along with horses) because “we did not file profit/loss statements” for a farm business. The truth is that the animals were a food source, ours (not the horses). The result was another large increase in our taxes.
Our home is a 1893 farmhouse with many yet original features. No ornate woodwork, no hardwood floors, very plain and dated. 2006 saw a moderate increase in value, 2007 we get a letter telling us they underestimated our land value by $11,000.00, as an attempt to justify the increase in taxes. Through the real estate crash of 2008, devaluation of real estate through 2009 and 2010 our taxes as well as assessed value have been steady to slight increases. The tax bill we just received is the first time our taxes have gone down. Only by nine dollars, but for the first time since we have lived here, they have gone down.I have to thank you once again for the things you have done that have directly influenced my life.
As a sportsman I can now carry my rifle (instead of a shotgun) into my woods, when I travel to hunt I no longer have to encase my firearms in my truck or my boat, The Castle doctrine legislation has strengthened the rights in my own home, and most significantly by the end of January I should be one of thousands of Wisconsin law abiding citizens whom is able to protect myself and my family as I travel with the new concealed carry law that has been years in the making, and supported by the vast majority of our state. As I had stated in my previous emails THANK YOU for doing exactly what we hired you to do. You did the things you said you would during your campaign. What a refreshing change from what we have gotten from many other elected officials.
Don’t worry Mr. Walker, keep up the good fight, we have your back, just like you’ve had ours.
