No candidates filed in Wega’s 3rd Ward

This spring, voters in the city’s 3rd Ward will have to write in the name of who they want their representative on the Common Council to be.

No one took out or filed nomination papers to be a candidate in that ward before the 5 p.m. deadline on Jan. 3.

“There will be no one on the ballot. It will be a write-in situation,” City Administrator Sheryl Scheuermann said.

In the 3rd Ward, Incumbent Jerry Juve is not seeking re-election for another two-year term on the council.

Scheuermann said that if someone wants to be an official write-in candidate in the 3rd Ward, that person should stop at City Hall and fill out candidacy papers.

In the 1st Ward, Bruce Brunner is running for alderman, and in the 2nd Ward, Donna Allenstein is running for a seat on the council.

Allenstein previosly served on the council – for a total of 10 years up until 2009.

Incumbent Chuck Gerlach is not seeking re-election in that ward; Allenstein is running unopposed.

Brunner will also be unopposed in the spring election. He was recently appointed to the council to fill the vacant 1st Ward seat, up until the April 3 election.

The seat was vacant after Jack Spierings resigned last November after he movedinto the 2nd Ward.
