Wega girls win sixth straight game

It wasn’t pretty, but a win is a win.

The Weyauwega-Fremont girls’ basketball team held Stevens Point Pacelli to eight second-half points Friday, Jan. 6, and handed the Cardinals a 43-25 Central Wisconsin 8 Conference loss.

It was the sixth straight win for the Indians after starting the season 0-3.

W-F led 14-6 after one quarter, but Pacelli outscored the Indians 11-7 in the second to cut the lead to 21-17 at halftime. The Indians outscored the Cardinals 8-4 in the third quarter and 14-4 over the final eight minutes.

Mariah Hulbert led the Indians with 17 points, while Danielle Austreng added eight. Marisa Rice led Pacelli with 13 points.

The Indians played Iola-Scandinavia Tuesday, Feb. 10, and will host Shiocton Friday, Jan. 13 before heading to Manawa Friday, Jan. 20, for a Rock the Gym game with the Wolves.
