Solem, Janet W.

Janet W. Solem, 93, of Iola, died on Sunday, January 8th, 2012 at Iola Living Assistance. Jan was born in Town of La Valle, Sauk County, Wisconsin on April 24, 1918, the daughter of the late Charles F. and Lucy (Gabbitas) Wilkinson. She married Gifford Solem on November 8, 1936 in Winona, MN. He preceded her in death on March 22, 1976. Jan had worked as office clerk for Dr. McGinnis in Manawa, Dr. Hayes in Waupaca, and Dr. Hollero in Iola. She was active in Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, being on the church council and member of the women’s circle. Jan also was active in the Order of the Eastern Star. She delivered meals on wheels for many years. She enjoyed golf, bridge and fishing. Jan was a very social person and a “Grandma” to the young people who met her. She is survived by: children, Tamara Solem of Carefree, AZ, and Gifford Solem of Miamisburg, OH. Jan is survived by 3 grandchildren: Glenn Haroldson, Scott Solem, and Traci Talbott. She is further survived by five great grandchildren: Stephanie Haroldson, Brittany, Mackenzie, Hunter, and Mitchell Talbott. Memorial Service will be held Monday, January 23, 2012 at 10:00 AM at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Iola, Wisconsin, with Reverend Dennis Olson officiating. Memorial Visitation will be held from 9:30 AM at the church. Burial will be at a later date in Our Savior’s Lutheran Cemetery, Town of Scandinavia, Wisconsin.
