She was a devoted mother who opened her home to her childrens’ friends and enjoyed hearing from those friends throughout the years. Ellen was a life-long member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Waupaca where she was very active in the Women of the Church Group and what was formerly known as Couples Club. She was very involved with the local Eastern Star Chapter where she was a past Worthy Matron. Ellen and Paul were also part of a Saturday Night Dance Club. Ellen was an excellent bridge player and participated in various bridge groups in Waupaca. In their retirement, Paul and Ellen enjoyed several winters in Rockport, Texas, where they met a new community of “snowbird” friends whose companionship was treasured by them. Additionally, they especially liked to travel, and trips to the Scandinavian countries and Europe were highlights. Ellen is survived by her daughter, Patricia (James) Watkins of Erie, Colorado and by her son, Paul M. (Cindy) Bammel of Eau Claire, Wisconsin. She is also survived by her four grandchildren, Katherine (Chris) Visser, Margaret Watkins, Alex Bammel, and Gregory Bammel, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Paul F. Bammel, her sister, Myrtle (Lester) Larson and her in-laws. A service celebrating Ellen’s life will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 206 E. Badger Street, Waupaca, Wisconsin today, Thursday, January 26 at 11 AM with Reverend Jennifer DeNetz, officiating.
