Griffin wins five matches

Garret Griffin won five matches when Manawa participated in a wrestling multi-meet on Saturday, Jan. 21.

Wrestling in the 152-pound weight class Griffin pinned Jordan Lange of Amherst, which was is only pin of the meet. He also won a match by technical fall over Carlos Padilla of Shiocton. The rest of his wins were by decision. He won a 7-1 decision over Casey Lenz of Weyauwega-Fremont, a 5-4 decision over Cody Kreitzer of Wittenberg-Birnamwood and a 3-2 decision over Andrew Philibeck of Freedom.

Griffin was the only Manawa wrestler to win a match against Amherst.

Against Shiocton, Cole Thompson won his match by injury default.

Manawa was the most competitive against Weyauwega-Fremont. In addition to Griffin’s win, Joe VandeVrede won his match by decision, as did Thompson. Jacob Frenche won his match by a major decision. Casey Johnson and Christian Bertram each won their matches by pinning their opponents.

In addition to Griffin’s win by decision against Wittenberg-Birnamwood, Bertram and VandeVrede also won by decision against their Wittenberg-Birnamwood opponents.

Against Freedom, Frenche won by decision over his opponent, while Bertram pinned his opponent in four minutes and 30 seconds.

The Manawa wrestling team travels to Bonduel on Thursday, Jan. 26.
