Schoenrock, Gerald

Gerald C. Schoenrock, age 85, New London, passed away on Thursday, February 9, 2012, at Angelus Retirement Community, Clintonville with his wife at his side. Gerald was born on July 3, 1926, in New London, son of the late Carl and Pearl (McGowan) Schoenrock. Gerald (Jerry to his many friends) served his country proudly as a member of the US Navy aboard the battleship USS Missouri (Big Mo) as he referred to it many times. He traveled to many ports of call and was honored to be on board for the signing of the Peace Treaty with the Japanese to end World War II. Gerald was married to Shirley Mae Niemuth in November of 1946, she preceded him in death on July 29, 1981. Gerald was then united in marriage to Shirley A. Hobbs September 3, 1983. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and Most Precious Blood Catholic Church in New London. He worked for American Plywood, New London, Appleton Mfg, and Hayes Mfg. until his retirement in 1988. He was also custodian for F&M Bank formerly New London National Bank for 25 years. Gerald spent many long hours working side by side with his best friend Bob Muskevitsch at both Appleton Mfg as well as Hayes Mfg. They formed another partnership as painters and wallpapers for many years. He was a member of the Masonic Temple and was very active in the early 1960’s as Boy Scout Master of Troop #7, his troop was known for their many long hikes. They hiked from New London to Hartman’s Creek in Waupaca as well as hiking from New London to Gardner Dam Boy Scout camp. Jerry was a friend to everyone he came in contact with and proudly remembers his working relationship with John Hayes, founder of Hayes Mfg., for his trust and faith in his ability to tackle new challenges head on. Jerry will be sadly missed by his wife of 28 years, Shirley Ann; his children: Terry (Georgia) Schoenrock, Appleton; Randy (Mary) Schoenrock, New London; Kris Schoenrock, Appleton; Barb (Steve) Ravy, Oshkosh; Tom Hobbs, Iola; Mike Hobbs, Gresham; Jim (Kathy) Hobbs, New London; a sister, Wanda Schoenrock; 17 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. He is further survived by brother and sister in-laws, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, and his four legged companion Casey (cat). He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Doug and Carl Jr. and sister, Geraldine Johnson. Funeral Mass for Gerald will be held today, Thursday, February 16, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church, New London with Fr. David Lewis officiating. Burial will be in the Floral Hill Cemetery, New London. Full Military Rites will be held. Visitation will be held at the church Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. The family wishes to extend special thanks to the entire staff at Angelus Retirement Community, Fox River Assisted Living and ThedaCare at Home Hospice for their loving care and compassion shown to him.
