Lady Trucks fall in 2OT

The Trucker girls varsity basketball team lost a heartbreaker in double overtime on Thursday, Feb. 9.

Clintonville led 8-6 after one quarter but trailed 14-21 at halftime. They battled back by outscoring the Wolves 20-4 in the third quarter, but Winneconne came back and outscored Clintonville 15-6 in the final frame.

A questionable call at the end of regulation led to the first overtime. Clintonville had a two-point lead and Dayna Seymour grabbed the rebound from a missed Winneconne free throw. A Winneconne player wrapped her arms around Seymour and grabbed the ball while Seymour was holding it. Game officials called a jump ball rather than a foul, and Winneconne got the ball with just seconds left. They scored the tying basket to force the first overtime.

Both teams scored six in the first overtime, but Winneconne outscored Clintonville 6-2 in the second overtime period to earn the win.

Hailey Sorenson led Clintonville with 19 points, while Stacy Reinke added 12. Brittany Hoffman scored nine, while Markiesa Westphal scored eight.

“During the first half of the game we had too many turnovers and as a result we were down 21-14 at the half. The girls came out of the locker room fired up after half and played a great third quarter. We took better care of the basketball and only had one turnover. We also played great defense. In the third quarter we scored 20 points to Winneconne’s 4,” said Coach Jennifer Soldner. “We just couldn’t keep that momentum though, and we got outscored 15-6 in the fourth quarter. Winneconne did an excellent job making their free throws in overtime going 9 for 12. I was proud of how hard the girls played.”

The Lady Truckers will play at home on Friday, March 2, at 7:15 p.m.
