In his partisan letter that appeared in the Feb. 23 County Post, George Lorenz blames Republicans for disagreeing with President Obama’s mandate that all women will be insured under Obamacare for contraceptives, abortions through the morning after pill and sterilization.
He blames Republicans 10 times for protesting against Obamacare’s forcing these “benefits.” This is so absurd that it hardly dignifies a response.
These “services” under Obamacare are mandated – forced upon women. Yet they violate “Freedom of Religion” under the First Amendment of the U. S. Constitution. Since contraception and abortion are against the teachings of many religions, especially the doctrine of the Catholic Church, and have always been protected by our Constitution and Bill of Rights, this mandate under Obamacare is unconstitutional.
As a result of this unconstitutionality, Catholic Cardinal Timothy Dolan, head of the U.S. Catholic Bishops, contacted President Obama that he must not force this grave issue. In turn, Catholic Bishop David Ricken of the Green Bay Diocese also wrote to all Catholics in the diocese that they should protest to their elected government officials that this decision by the Obama Administration must be overturned.
Thousands of Democrats and Republicans among all Christian religions, as well as Jewish and others, have cried out against this unjust action by the Obama Administration. These are the facts. Therefore, you can readily see that Lorenz is wrong in blaming this protest against Republicans.
This battle is ongoing, in hopes that the Obama administration will back down, and abide by the Freedom of Religion clause in the First Amendment. It is very sad that many people today believe that a want leads to a need, which leads to a right, and then leads to an entitlement. This is all false thinking, but with our current feel good society, instant gratification without consequences, I can see where they’re coming from. Yet, we must quit this false thinking, and return to the logical, original intent of our founding fathers, and abide by the U.S. Constitution, and delete the abortion, contraception and sterilization mandates by the Obama Administration.
