Recently my wife, while perusing the Internet, found an interesting item: a robotic floor cleaner that, or so it claims, cleans your floors.
Both of us have mobility problems because of arthritis and hurting joints. We found the ad of interest. So we took a chance and made the purchase.
After opening the box and a quick introduction to its operations and a battery charge, my wife got brave and pushed the start button. As per preliminary instructions we did move some smaller items to the lunch counter and lifted the heating pad (used a lot) cord out of the way. We decided to watch it operate so we sat on the couch with our legs up along with the dogs. It is unbelievable how it moves back and forth over the open areas and travels carefully around table legs, chairs and other solid items. It pulls up to an a table leg, senses it won’t move, stops, turns and continues on in a different direction.
Now I suppose many would laugh at us watching (did it only once of course) a robot cruise around the floor, but it is a marvel in that it can move about with our any human control.
Our older dog jumped down to the floor and wanted to challenge it, but when it started to move towards him he cowered and jumped back onto the couch, thus to watch from a safe distance. It even went under our bed which hasn’t been touched for a while because we can’t bend down that far and that easily. It did take a while, but finally emerged almost with a smile as it had accomplished what had not been done for some time.
Perhaps to many it would seem senseless to have such a device, but when you have physical limitations it is a great help in house keeping.
