Coach Melton gives some tips to Payton Schuelke, 8, and Tanner Nienhaus, 6, as they practice their wrestling moves during Manawa Youth Wrestling practice.
Schuelke and Nienhaus are two of the 34 youths who participate in the wrestling program that has run for more than 15 years.
Board member Mary Griffin stated, “The best part of the program is seeing the kids go through the program and do well when they hit high school. We have had many State Qualifiers go through our program. We work with the high school coaches. They come and help with the youth and middle school. And parents and kids who have previously gone through the program want to come back and help as well. It’s nice to see the relationships that these kids make, not only with the kids from our school, but the on-going friendships they make with kids from other schools as well.”
