Hard work pays off for students

On March 3, numerous students at Little Wolf High School took part in the District Solo & Ensemble Music Festival. Some competed in vocals and others played various instruments, while others performed solos or in group events. Some performed both.

The pieces performed varied from Class A, Class B, and Class C. If a student performed a Class A piece and received a star-first, they moved on to state. The students who will continue on to state are listed below. A few also had comments as to their advancement to state.

Vocal Soloists: Breana Haines, Katelyn Langman and Jordyn Sachtjen

Girls Madrigal: Brianna Hanson, Jessica Smiles, Becky Larson, Kim Retzke, Katelyn Langman, Ansley Block, Ashley Oertel, Alix Lund, Jane Karpinski, Katie Velie, Bobbi Sell and Autumn Reinert

Men’s Trio: Camden Moser, Todd Olsen and John Holtz

Abby Schoenike: “I can’t explain it. It’s incredible.”

Kim Retzke: “I think it will be a fun and interesting experience.”

Ansley Block: “I’m really excited to experience it.”

Jane Karpinski: “I’m uber excited.”

Becky Larson: “Finally! I’ve been waiting since freshman year!”

Brandon Addington: “It completely caught me by surprise.”

These students will continue on to Stevens Point on May 5 to perform their pieces once again at the state level. In all, 45 students represented Little Wolf Jr/Sr High at the district Solo & Ensemble competition.
