Waupaca man returns to art

After many years of building and remodeling homes, Scott Krueger has traded his hammer for an artist’s brush.

“Since I was a young boy, I have been sketching and painting wildlife,” Krueger said.

Watercolor is his medium of choice and dog portraits are his main subject.

“It just seems natural for me to paint something that I am so familiar with. I have been training, breeding and campaigning retrievers for 30 years, the last few professionally,” Krueger said.

Krueger met Susan Martin, a local artist specializing in folk art, while training her dog, Charlie.

“Sue inspired me to start painting again. After Charlie was transformed into a working Golden Doodle, Sue and I started to paint every Wednesday evening in her studio,” Krueger said.

“At first, in the studio, I painted studies of the colorful fishing flies that I used in local rivers and streams but I quickly gravitated to the dogs, especially labs. I soon found that, even more than a photo, a painted dog portrait can evoke strong emotions”, he added.

Krueger has donated paintings to benefit the Waupaca High School art students, Trout Unlimited and Ducks Unlimited. Krueger has also sold paintings in Door County and his work can be seen in Waupaca at Simpson’s, Embellishment’s and Cronies.

Krueger is available to paint commissioned portraits of your dog and he currently offers and showcases his work on his website, www.retrievers2remember.com.
