County meetings on farmland preservation

Waupaca County will host two informational meetings on farmland preservation planning.

The first meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 27, at the Waupaca County Courthouse, 811 Harding St., Waupaca.

The second meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 28, at the Union Town Hall, E6592 State Highway 22, Manawa.

“These meetings are a great way for the public to learn about the state of Wisconsin’s farmland preservation program and about Waupaca County’s Farmland Preservation planning process. There have been numerous changes at the state level that have increased the incentive for participation in Farmland Preservation,” Waupaca County Planner Melinda Osterberg said.

The meeting will provide information on the Wisconsin Working Lands Initiative and to gauge interest in farmland preservation within Waupaca County.

“Waupaca County has had a lot of recent success addressing land use opportunities. The comprehensive planning process and the conservation easement program have both gained statewide acclaim. This was made possible through a bottom-up, citizen driven process that I foresee being repeated for the farmland preservation program discussion,” said Mike Koles, the community development educator with UW-Extension in Waupaca County,

The farmland preservation planning process will allow Waupaca County to implement the goals set by the town comprehensive plans.
