Schroeder, Kenneth E. ?Tobe?

Kenneth E. “Tobe” Schroeder, Waupaca, Wisconsin, age 82, passed away with his family by his side on Saturday, March 31, 2012 at Riverside Medical Center in Waupaca, WI. He was born November 22, 1929 in Waupaca, WI; son of Edwin and Rena (Brooks) Schroeder. After graduating from high school, Ken went to work for his father and his cousin, John, as a carpenter, and was proud of the many homes and businesses he built around the Waupaca area. On October 2, 1954, Ken married Yvonne Raymond in Poy Sippi, WI. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. In 1975, Ken went to work as a carpenter at the Wisconsin Veteran’s Home in King. He earned recognition for his exceptional craftsmanship on many projects including the bandstand cupola and memorial. He also received merit for his creation of fifty plaques which continue to be displayed in the state capitol today. Ken retired from the Wisconsin Veteran’s Home in 1992. Ken was especially proud of his work on the chapel and covered bridge at the Red Mill. The covered bridge involved turning 400 handmade dowels which were pounded in an inch at a time with a sledge hammer. It is an example of artistry and craftsmanship that has touched so many and will continue to inspire for decades to come. But Ken’s crowning achievement was raising four beautiful daughters and a son and having had the opportunity to have shared his later years with his family and grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by all of his family and many friends. Ken is survived by: wife, Yvonne Schroeder of Waupaca, WI; children: Scott (Shawn) Schroeder of Colorado Springs, CO; Jodi (Peter) Porrey of Greenville, WI; Jana (Robert) Kizewski of Wisconsin Rapids, WI; Jacci (Corey) Stanchik of Waupaca, WI; grandchildren: Mark and Christopher Schroeder; Landen, Joe, and Elizabeth Porrey; Kyle, Matthew, and Simeon Kizewski; and Mackenzie Loken, Mackeegan and Elianna Stanchik; sister, Carol (Norman) Hoeft of Wild Rose, WI; sister-in-law, Evelyn Schroeder of King, WI; and brother-in-law, Gary Snortum of Appleton, WI.
