Indians come from behind to win

Weyauwega-Fremont has the upper hand in its Central Wisconsin 8 Conference softball rivalry with Iola-Scandinavia.

The Indians overcame a 2-1 deficit to pick up a 5-3 win Tuesday, April 3, over the Thunderbirds.

W-F opened the scoring with a run in the bottom of the third, but I-S countered with two runs in the fifth. Whitney Tomczak walked and scored on Amanda Aanstad’s double to tie the game at 1-1. Karina Welch later reached on a fielder’s choice and scored on Kylie Johnson’s single.

The Indians, however, came up with a pair of runs in the fifth to take a 3-2 lead and added two more in the sixth on Maggie Knecht’s two-run single.

Trailing 5-2, the T-Birds threatened in the seventh inning, but could only manage a run, as Jane Oligney scored on a single by Welch.

The teams will play each other again Thursday, April 26, in Iola.
