Recognizing 40 years of service

A surprise reception was held on Tuesday, April 10, for Judy Watson at the Scandinavia Municipal Building. The occasion: She has served 40 years as clerk-treasurer for the village of Scandinavia.

State Rep. Kevin Peterson, 40th Assembly District, was on hand to present two awards: A Certificate of Commendation from Gov. Scott Walker and a Citation from Peterson and Sen. Luther Olsen, 14th Senate District.

Peterson began by saying, “When you look at Waupaca County on a map, it’s just a flat object. It’s the people that live in a community, and especially people that serve, that give it a shape.”

A very surprised Watson was accompanied by daughters Penny, Kathy and Debi, along with current and previous Scandinavia Village Board members, representatives from the town of Scandinavia, Scandinavia Fire Department and Scandinavia Booster Club.

“I don’t know what to say,” noted Watson, “I appreciate and am honored. I have enjoyed all the years and hope to serve a few more.”

“I’ve always had a good group to work with and we have been able to work through any problems,” she continued. “I don’t have any regrets over the past 40 years.”

Village Board members Tony Hawke and Mike Hayes credit Watson for her efforts in making the village board meeting process run smoothly.

Peterson apresented and read the commendation on behalf of Gov. Scott Walker:
