Celebrating Arbor Day

Fremont Elementary School’s third through fifth graders participated in a variety of Arbor Day activities on Friday, April 27.

The students divided into three groups and participated in three different activities that had to do with trees, including planting, climbing and identifying them.

Arborist Paul Krause taught students the proper way to plant trees, and students then had the opportunity to plant honey locust, maple and pear trees near the playground.

Mike Stanonick, who is also an arborist, showed students how to climb a tree using special equipment.

Bill Van Nuland, who teaches fourth grade at Fremont Elementary School, provided lessons about tree identification.

Students learned the characteristics to identify maple, locust, ash, spruce, pine and cedar trees.
