Athletes gearing up for state tournaments

State tournament time is right around the corner for area high school sports teams.

Here’s a rundown of where local track, baseball, softball, boys’ golf and girls’ soccer teams are heading:

Track

Regionals in divisions 1-3 are scheduled for Monday, May 21. The top four finishers in each event at regionals advance to sectionals, which will be held Thursday, May 24.

Division 1

Stevens Point Regional, 3:30 p.m., Goerke Field, University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point: Waupaca, New London and Hortonville will compete with Appleton East, Appleton North, Appleton West, De Pere, Stevens Point and West De Pere. Sectional qualifiers will compete in the Ashwaubenon Sectional, which begins at 3:30 p.m. at Ashwaubenon High School.

Division 2

Ripon Regional, 3:45 p.m., Ingalls Field, Ripon: Weyauwega-Fremont will compete with Appleton Xavier, Berlin, Fox Valley Lutheran, Laconia, Omro, Ripon, Wautoma/Faith Christian Academy and Winneconne. Sectional qualifiers will compete in the Little Chute Sectional, which begins at 3 p.m. at Little Chute High School.

Oconto Regional, 3:45 p.m., Oconto High School: Clintonville will compete with Bonduel, Freedom, Green Bay Notre Dame, Little Chute, Marinette, Oconto, Oconto Falls and Peshtigo. Sectional qualifiers will compete in the Little Chute Sectional, which begins at 3 p.m. at Little Chute High School.

Division 3

Marathon Regional, 3:30 p.m., Marathon High School: Iola-Scandinavia and Marion will compete with Gresham/Bowler, Marathon, Northland Lutheran, Rosholt, Tigerton, Wausau Newman and Wisconsin Valley Lutheran. Sectional qualifiers will compete in the Rosholt Sectional, which begins at 3:15 p.m. at Rosholt High School.

Plainfield Tri-County Regional, 3:30 p.m., Plainfield Tri-County High School: Amherst, Manawa, Wild Rose and Almond-Bancroft will compete with Menasha St. Mary Central, Pittsville, Plainfield Tri-County, Port Edwards, Stevens Point Pacelli and Wisconsin Rapids Assumption. Sectional qualifiers will compete in the Rosholt Sectional, which begins at 3:15 p.m. at Rosholt High School.

The top three finishers at sectionals in Division 1 and the top four in divisions 2-3 advance to the State Track and Field Meet, set for Friday and Saturday, June 1-2, at Memorial Stadium at UW-La Crosse.

Baseball

Regional play begins Friday, May 25, in divisions 2-4 and Tuesday, May 29, in Division 1.

Division 1

Kimberly Sectional: Waupaca, New London, Hortonville.

Division 2

Marinette Sectional, Regional A: Clintonville.

Division 3

Stevens Point Pacelli Sectional, Regional B: Amherst, Iola-Scandinavia, Manawa, Wild Rose; Regional D: Weyauwega-Fremont.

Division 4

Rosholt Sectional, Regional B: Almond-Bancroft; Regional D: Marion.

The State Spring Baseball Tournament will be held Tuesday to Thursday, June 12-14, at Fox Cities Stadium in Grand Chute.

Softball

Regional play begins Thursday, May 24, in divisions 2-4 and Tuesday, May 29, in Division 1.

Division 1

Kaukauna Sectional: Hortonville.

Division 2

Little Chute Sectional, Regional A: Clintonville; Regional C: Waupaca; Regional D: New London.

Division 3

Necedah Sectional, Regional A: Iola-Scandinavia, Manawa; Regional D: Amherst, Weyauwega-Fremont, Wild Rose.

Division 4

Wisconsin Rapids Assumption Sectional, Regional B: Almond-Bancroft; Regional D: Marion.

The State Softball Tournament will be held Thursday to Saturday, June 14-16, at Goodman Diamond in Madison.

Boys’ golf

The area’s nine boys’ golf teams will tee it up for regional play Monday to Wednesday, May 21-23.

Division 1

Waupaca, New London and Hortonville will head to the Stevens Point Regional at the Stevens Point Country Club at 9 a.m. May 21 and compete with Appleton East, Appleton North, Appleton West, Shawano, Stevens Point and Wisconsin Rapids. The top four teams and top four individuals not on a qualifying team will advance to the Wisconsin Rapids Sectional at 9 a.m. Tuesday, May 29, at The Ridges Golf Course.

Division 2

Weyauwega-Fremont will compete with Appleton Xavier, Berlin, Fox Valley Lutheran, Little Chute, Omro, Ripon, Wautoma and Winneconne at the Golf Courses at Lawsonia, Green Lake, for the Ripon Regional at 9 a.m. May 23. The top four teams and top four individuals not on a qualifying team will advance to the Little Chute Sectional at 9 a.m. May 29 at Fox Valley Golf Club, Kaukauna.

Clintonville will join Freedom, Green Bay Notre Dame, Marinette, Mosinee, Oconto Falls, Peshtigo, Seymour and Wittenberg-Birnamwood at the Marinette Regional at 9 a.m. May 22 at Little River Country Club, Marinette. The top four teams and top four individuals not on a qualifying team will advance to the Little Chute Sectional at 9 a.m. May 29 at Fox Valley Golf Club, Kaukauna.

Division 3

Iola-Scandinavia, Manawa, Amherst and Marion will join Marathon, Shiocton, Stevens Point Pacelli, Wausau Newman and Wisconsin Rapids Assumption at the Assumption Regional at 10 a.m. May 22 at The Ridges Golf Course. The top four teams and top four individuals not on a qualifying team will advance to the Marathon Sectional at 9 a.m. May 29 at Pine Valley Golf Course, Marathon.

The first two teams and top three individuals not on a qualifying team will advance to the State Boys’ Golf Meet, to be held Monday and Tuesday, June 4-5 at University Ridge Golf Course, Madison.

Girls’ soccer

Tournament play begins with regional matchups Thursday, May 31.

Division 1

Neenah Sectional: Waupaca, Hortonville; Kimberly Sectional; New London.

Division 2

Stevens Point Sectional, Regional B: Clintonville.

The State Girls’ Soccer Tournament will be held Thursday to Saturday, June 14-16, at Uihlein Soccer Park, Milwaukee.
