Rutz shines again in final conference meet

There’s good news for girls’ shot put and discus competitors in the Central Wisconsin 8 Conference.

Katy Rutz will soon graduate from Amherst High School.

The senior capped her final CWC-8 Meet Saturday, May 12, by winning both events at Iola-Scandinavia High School. She also won both events at conference meets as a freshman, sophomore and junior.

Rutz was one of several local athletes that won individual championships at the meet. Wittenberg-Birnamwood won the boys’ and girls’ team championships, while Weyauwega-Fremont was second and I-S placed sixth.

Placing first for W-F were Dustin Hanes in the boys’ 100- and 200-meter dashes (11.74, 23.84); Luke Rohloff in the boys’ 110- and 300-meter hurdles (16.21, 42.34); Bryce Behn in the boys’ high jump (5 feet, 10 inches); Ellen Schroeder in the girls’ 800-meter run (2:27.32); the boys’ 3,200-meter relay team (9:00.94); and the girls’ 1,600-meter relay team (4:20.43).

I-S had a pair of first-place 800-meter relay teams. The boys’ squad turned in a time of 1:38.61, while the girls’ team finished in 2:00.11.

Seconds for W-F went to Schroeder in the girls’ 1,600, Megan Young in the girls’ 400, Corey Zeutzius in the boys’ 800, Alyse Peters in the girls’ 3,200 and the girls’ 800 relay team.

Thirds went to Nick Thomas in the boys’ 1,600 and 3,200; Zeutzius in the boys’ 400; Danielle Austreng in the girls’ high jump; Tanner Ross in the boys’ high jump; Mike Howe in the boys’ discus and shot put; the boys’ 800 relay team; and the girls’ 400 and 3,200 relay teams.

Fourths went to Trevor Fitzpatrick in the boys’ triple jump and Lizzie Abhold in the girls’ discus, while fifths went to Jane Beyer in the girls’ 400, James Hoch in the boys’ 3,200, Schroeder in the girls’ high jump, Jacob Radtke in the boys’ discus, Abhold in the girls’ shot put and the boys’ 1,600 relay team.

Sixths went to Hanes in the boys’ long jump and Behn in the boys’ triple jump; sevenths went to Lauren Akey in the girls’ 100 and Kaitie Gilbert in the girls’ 100 hurdles and triple jump; and eighths went to Fitzpatrick in the boys’ 100, Tre Blohm in the boys’ 300 hurdles, Akey in the girls’ long jump and Dan Crist in the boys’ triple jump.

Seconds for I-S went to Jordan Beyersdorf in the boys’ 300 hurdles; and the girls’ 3,200 and the boys’ 1,600 relay teams.

Emily Sether placed third in the girls’ 800, while fourths went to Tyisha Weed in the girls’ 100; the boys’ 3,200 relay team; and the boys’ and girls’ 400 relay teams.

Fifths went to Travis McKinney in the boys’ 100 and Shelby Trzebiatowski in the girls’ 800.

Sixths went to Dylan Robbins in the boys’ 400, Amanda Hardel in the girls’ 300 hurdles, Sarah Brumer in the girls’ 200 and Claire Bestul in the girls’ discus.

Robert Clark placed seventh in the boys’ 110 hurdles, while eighths went to Ashley Melum in the girls’ 100 hurdles, Derek Peterson in the boys’ 3,200, Paige Berg in the girls’ shot put and McKinney in the boys’ shot put.
