Signs of Gov. Walker’s ‘divide and conquer’

Ignore the yard signs and ads, and explore the candidates’ records before you vote for governor on June 5.

With an unlimited budget, Gov. Scott Walker has the media advantage, but don’t believe the hype. Walker does have an opponent, Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, and his record shows him to be an honest and honorable man who can do a lot to heal our state. He deserves our votes.

Why oust a sitting governor? Because he deceived and would not have been elected if he had told the truth about his agenda. He bragged he would produce 250,000 jobs, but Walker’s top priority was not jobs but to reward corporations and millionaires.

Wisconsin is actually lagging behind the rest of the country in job creation. Walker worked with the Republican Legislature to deny a voice to anyone not in lockstep with his efforts to enact anti-worker, anti-education, anti-environmental legislation that is part of a nationwide agenda of power brokers not elected by anyone. Walker’s short tenure as governor has been an exercise in destruction of the democratic process, and he is just getting started.

Walker is available to those that write big checks, and who tell him how to dance. At a time when there are unfilled jobs because there are not enough trained workers, Walker gutted funds to education at all levels. He supported a mining bill written by the mining corporation, rather than let legislators work out a compromise that would safeguard our environment.

Walker started his “divide and conquer” strategy (his own words) with public sector unions, but it is all part of a larger game aimed at all worker’s rights including the right to get justice for those doing equal work for unequal pay.

Don’t resent those that teach your kids, plow your snow and make sure you have water and sewers and other services. The problem is not your friends and neighbors, but Walker’s friends. We need to work together democratically.

Don’t let anyone buy your vote. Vote for Barrett June 5.
