Pinkerton, Mildred Viola (Smithers)

Mildred Viola (Smithers) Pinkerton, age 102, passed away on Wednesday, June 6, 2012. Mildred was born on Sept. 7, 1909 in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin the daughter of Wilhelmina Graessle and Albert Smithers. Mildred graduated from Fond du Lac High School in 1927. Mildred married Kenneth Edward Pinkerton on August 18, 1934 in Fond du Lac, WI. They then moved to Waupaca in 1942. He died in 1996. She took a short course in library work at the University of Wisconsin and worked at the Fond du Lac Library. She later worked as a dental office assistant for Dr. Romeis, in Waupaca. She was active in the Riverside Community Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Red Cross Bloodmobile, People-to-People, and a number of other community and church organizations. She was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Waupaca, since 1942. Mildred loved people, reading, bread-baking, learning, and her family. She and Ken enjoyed travel across the United States, Japan, and many places in Europe. She took a number of courses at the UW-Stevens Point following her retirement, and really enjoyed interacting with the young people on campus, as well as learning about computers, psychology, German, Astronomy, and a variety of other subjects. She was active in a book club in her later years, and enjoyed reading well into her 90s. Mildred is survived by her two children, Tad (Hannah) of Madison, WI, and Anne (Neal) Davidson of Coldwater, MI; grandchildren: Brian (Rhea) Pinkerton of Woodside, CA; Andrew (Dawn) Pinkerton of Redwood City, CA; Teresa Pinkerton of Madison, WI; Stephanie Davidson of Bloomington, IL and Jennifer (Tom) Tuley of Indianapolis, IN; great grandchildren: Aristotle and Cosmo Pinkerton of Woodside, CA, and Jack Tuley of Indianapolis, IN. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Kenneth and son Alan, as well as sisters Virginia and Ethel. A memorial service was held at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Waupaca, WI on Sat., June 9th, at 10:00 am. Interment at Wedges Prairie Cemetery, Ladoga, WI, beside son Alan and husband Kenneth. Memorial contributions are suggested for St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Waupaca, WI, or a charity of your choice. The Holly Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
