Diamond Cats win on suicide squeeze

The Clintonville American Legion Post 63 Diamond Cats earned a thrilling win over Marion/Tigerton on Thursday, June 14.

Marion/Tigerton scored first, plating a run in the second inning on an RBI single by David Stenson. Clintonville answered with two runs in the bottom of the second inning on a two RBI single by Paul Kenfield.

Marion tied the game in the fourth inning when Stenson drove in Justin Miller. Clintonville took the lead again in the fifth inning when Adam Weatherwax scored on a Garrick Morgan safety squeeze.

Marion/Tigerton tied the game again in the sixth inning when Drew Radies drove in Stenson with a double.

Clintonville struck back in the bottom of the seventh with back-to-back singles by Jake Van Allen and Garrick Morgan. After intentionally walking Turner Doornink, Nick Hogan put down a suicide squeeze bunt to plate Van Allen for the win.

Weatherwax picked up the win, throwing a complete game. He gave up nine hits, walked two, and struck out seven. Hoffman took the loss for Marion/Tigerton, going all seven innings while allowing seven hits and two walks while striking out five.

Van Allen led Clintonville at the plate, going 3×4. Morgan, Doornink, Kenfield and Mike Fisher all had one hit. Radies led Marion/Tigerton, going 2×4 with a double. Gunner Kopitzke was 2×4, and Stenson was 3×3.

The Diamond Cats play at home at 5 p.m. Sunday, June 24, against Green Lake, and at 7 p.m. Monday, June 25, against Wittenberg.
