Manawa School Board moves forward with land sale

At its June meeting, the Manawa School Board approved a land offer to purchase for the 34 acre Butternut Road property the district has for sale.
At its May meeting, the board had approved listing the property for $149,900. After the land was listed, the district received an offer that was $20,700 below the asking price. At the Buildings and Grounds Committee meeting on June 6, the committee recommended considering a counteroffer of $139,400 and gave administrators approval to make any needed correspondence with the pending offer because a response was needed within 10 days.
The counteroffer went before the entire board at the regular June meeting. Approval of the counteroffer was passed by a 5-2 vote with Dave Strebe and Corinne Zielke voting against the approval.
The board also approved a support staff equity increase of 1.64 percent on individual base wage for current support staff. This would be a one-time payment.
The Athletic/Activities Director salary was also unanimously increased from $3,000 to $5,000 for 2012-13.
The board approved the special education teacher contract for Victoria Cherney. It also accepted teacher resignations from Jeremy Hanson, Jacklyn Hanson, John Peterson and Jane Dietz.
After approving the implementation of the Laude System for Little Wolf High School with an implementation date to be determined at its May meeting, the board recommended putting that on hold until more research can be done. Confusion about the system and implementation in the community were cited as the main reasons for putting it on hold.
