Nass, Gilbert “Gib”

Gilbert “Gib” D. Nass, 82, of Ashford, CT, passed away August 7, 2012. He was born on Aug. 27, 1929 in Lebanon, Wisconsin to the late Rev. Gerhard and Ruth (Krebs) Nass. Gib graduated from Clintonville (WI) H.S. and Wartburg College and received a Ph.D. in sociology from the State University of Iowa. While living in West Chicago, IL, he taught sociology at Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Hospital and at Western Illinois University. In 1965, Gib joined the faculty of the University of Connecticut Dept. of Human Development and Family Relations, retiring as an associate professor in 1989. He authored four books on marriage, family dynamics and sexuality, as well as numerous articles, and enjoyed mentoring dedicated students. He was a longtime supporter of UConn sports, especially women’s basketball and soccer, and played in softball, golf and pool leagues. Gib appreciated both the solitude and natural surroundings of his home and intelligent, witty, attentive mingling in a variety of lively settings. A lifelong Green Bay Packers fan, Gib treasured fishing vacations to his family cottage in northern Wisconsin. Predeceased by his brothers Robert and Roger, Gilbert is survived by his four sons, David of Storrs, Craig and his wife Karen of Columbia, Gary and his wife Ellen of Mansfield Depot and Jay of Storrs, also by his grandson Jason of Storrs, a niece, three nephews, several cousins, two grandnieces and also by Beverly Nass of Storrs, the mother of his four sons and by his beloved partner Jeanette McIntosh of Denver, CO. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to UConn Division of Athletics, Development Office, 2111 Hillside Rd., Unit 1078. Storrs, CT. 06269.
