Wenzel, Gertrude

Gertrude (Gerty) Wenzel, Waupaca, WI, age 100 – passed away on Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at Bethany Home in Waupaca. She was born on June 17, 1912 in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Philip and Adeline (Porth) Bischoff. She married Oliver H. Wenzel on February 23, 1934 in Chicago. He preceded her in death on March 20, 1999. Gertrude is survived by her daughter, Pat (Richard) Hobson of Pine River; grandchildren: Jim (Colleen) Hobson, Juli Hudziak, Jeri (Barth) Allen, Jon (Jenny) Hobson, Joanne (Jerry) Wolf, Gerard (Sharon) Thompson, McAnn Wenzel, Charles Wenzel, and Richard Wenzel; great grandchildren: Jason, Molly, Jeremiah, Jenna, Jessica, Jacob, Caleb, Douglas, Stanley, Amos, Andy, Winnie, Miles, Caleb, Jacob, Michael, and Ashley, and great great grandchildren: Deanna, Mallory, Nathan, and Presley. She is further survived by two daughters-in-law, Jean Wenzel and Betty Stewart; sister-in-law, Thelma Tegtmeier; nieces, nephews, and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband, Oliver; her son, Jerome Wenzel, and her parents. Gertrude had been employed as a secretary with the Marshall Field’s Co. for about ten years, retiring in 1975 to move to the Long Lake area in Waushara County. They had been very successful and were able to retire at age 50. After moving to the Long Lake area they started printing businesses in this area and in South Haven, MS where they would spend their winter months. They had also owned a number of investment properties in the Long Lake area. Gertrude was a real dog lover and had many companions over the years. A funeral service was held on Monday, August 20, 2012 at 1:00 PM at the Holly Funeral Home in Waupaca, WI, with Father Nigel Bousfield, Rector – St. Mark’s Episcopal Church – Waupaca, officiating. Interment was in the Cedar Lake Cemetery, Township of Lind, Waupaca County, WI. The Holly Funeral Home of Waupaca, WI assisted the family with arrangements.
