Campaign sign debases political process

The Democratic presidential ad campaign has now sunk to a new low.

Unfortunately, it is on display right here in Waupaca, Ronald Reagan’s “small town U.S.A.” where, traditionally, we have thought of people being friendly, neighborly and teaching their children from the cradle to be “be nice” and “play fair.”

The sign, prominently displayed at a residence on South Main Street, shows Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s face inside a circle with a sieve below and the caption, “Pee here.”

The incivility of suggesting that people should urinate on the picture of the rival political party’s presidential candidate demeans and debases our entire “noble experiment in self government.”

It demeans and debases our political process; it demeans and debases the party or candidate that creates and disseminates such a loathsome political sign.

Last, but not least, it demeans and debases the person who allows it on his or her premises.

I am shocked and appalled.

Yes, the person who resides at this South Main Street location has the Constitutional right to be hateful in her political speech.

However, she has now also demeaned and debased her lovely, God-given voice and her lovely, New York City celebrity image for a cheap political shot.

Shame on you, Annie.
