Dunbar, Darrel L.

Darrel L. Dunbar, King, WI (formerly of Waupaca,) age 75 – died on Sunday, August 26, 2012 at the Wisconsin Veterans Home – King, WI. He was born on November 2, 1936 in the Township of Belmont, Portage County, WI, the son of Elmer and Mayme (Testin) Dunbar. He married Ruby Winkler on July 30, 1994 in Waupaca. Darrel is survived by his wife, Ruby; daughter, Lisa Dunbar (special friend, Brent Bantleon) of Ogdensburg; grandson, Stuart Johnson of Waupaca; mother, Mayme Dunbar of Waupaca; step-children: Linda (Tom) Telfer, Rick (Kaye) Winkler, and Mark Winkler all of Waupaca; ten step-grandchildren and five step-great grandchildren. Darrel is also survived by three sisters: Gladys (Lloyd) Moder of Hortonville, Caroline (Leonard) Guthu of Waupaca, and Annette Koss of Waupaca; a brother, Harley (Sue) Dunbar of Waupaca, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Elmer, a brother, and twin sisters. Darrel had been employed as a construction worker for many years with the former Don’s Construction Company in Waupaca and then with Much Construction in Waupaca until his retirement. He had owned and operated the Country Inn in Waupaca for over 15 years. Darrel was stationed in Germany while serving his country in the US Army during the Korean War. He had been a member of VFW Post #1037 – Waupaca for many years. He enjoyed playing pool and throwing horseshoes for the Country Inn teams for many years. He also enjoyed fishing and had traveled to Canada with the same fishing group for over 35 years. He and Ruby loved golf and they played at least three times a week. They also enjoyed bowling. Darrel had been a very active member of the Waupaca Lion’s Club for many years. A funeral service will be held at the Holly Funeral Home in Waupaca, WI today, Thursday, August 30, 2012 at 1:00 PM, with Chaplain Rich Engle – Wisconsin Veterans Home, officiating. Military honors followed by interment will be in the Central Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in King, WI. A visitation is being held at the Holly Funeral Home in Waupaca on Thursday from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in the name of Darrel L. Dunbar. The Holly Funeral Home of Waupaca, WI is assisting the family with arrangements.
