Comet golfers place sixth

The Waupaca girls’ golf team opened Eastern Valley Conference play with a pair of sixth-place finishes.

The Comets carded a round of 245 Aug. 21 at a seven-team EVC meet at the Waupaca Country Club a day after competing with the same six teams and shooting a 262 at De Pere’s Hilly Haven Golf Course.

Jessica Krawczyk led Waupaca with a 52 Aug. 21, while other scores were Natasha Hales (57), Morgan Smith (67), Jayne Barber (69) and Charlotte Bergsbaken (76). Sierra Patzke shot a 73 for Waupaca in the junior varsity competition, while Sarah Pellerino shot an 84.

Team scores were Fox Valley Lutheran (182), Appleton Xavier (191), Wrightstown (227), Freedom (228), Little Chute (232), Waupaca (245) and Bonduel (268).

Hales led the Comets at Hilly Haven with a 56, followed by Krawczyk (60), Smith (67), Barber (79) and Bergsbaken (82). Patzke turned in a JV round of 69.

Waupaca also placed ninth out of 10 teams Aug. 17 at the Heart of the Valley Invitational at Kaukauna’s Countryside Golf Club.

Krawczyk and Robin Peeters teamed up for a combined score of 103, while Hales and Pellerino shot a 111 and Barber and Bergsbaken a 127.

Team scores were FVL (159), Appleton North (173), Kimberly and Xavier (178), Oshkosh West (179), Kaukauna Orange (199), Little Chute (201), Kaukauna White (211), Waupaca (214) and Wrightstown (217).

Waupaca competed at EVC meets Aug. 29 at Freedom’s Irish Waters Golf Course and Aug. 28 at Cecil’s Golden Sands Golf Community and will head to Neenah’s Winagamie Golf Course Tuesday, Sept. 4, for another conference meet.
