Scout sign-up nights to be held in Waupaca

Parents may sign up their boys for Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts in Waupaca at meetings this month.

A sign up for Cub Scouts will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Community, and a sign up for Boy Scouts will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 17, at the church.

Cub Scouting is a program for boys in first through fifth grades that focuses on character development, good citizenship and

having an active and healthy lifestyle, while also having fun.

The boys will have an opportunity to build and race a pinewood derby car, tour the local police and fire stations and attend summer camp at Camp Rokilio in Kiel, Wis. for first through third graders or Camp Twin Lakes in Waupaca for fourth and fifth graders.

At summer camp, the boys will have an opportunity to go swimming and boating, use the shooting sports range (archery and BB’s) and participate in nature hikes throughout the camp properties.

Each boy that signs up and joins Pack 3677 will receive a free one-year subscription to Boys’ Life magazine (a $12 value).

Boy Scouting is a program for boys in sixth through twelfth grades.

It also focuses on character development, good citizenship and having an active lifestyle.

In addition, Boy Scouting emphasizes leadership skills learned in the patrol method.

Boy Scouting is a boy lead program where the outdoors will come alive. Boy Scouts typically strive to have at least one overnight campout or event each month to utilize the skills learned in the weekly troop meetings.

The boys have the opportunity to spend a week at summer camp. At summer camp, the boys will swim, boat, canoe, use the shooting sports range (rifle and shotgun), as well as work on merit badges that interest them.
