One for the record books

Paul Keller of Marion shot a 27-point buck while bowhunting Sept. 18 in Waupaca County.

The buck weighed 215 pounds and had an estimated gross score of 244.

“We finally had the chance to meet with an official Boone & Crockett-certified measurer and the net green score of the deer is 229-2/8,” but this is not the official score until the 60-day drying period is over. Then, it will be measured by a panel of Boone & Crockett scorers to determine the deer’s final score.

It will most likely be in the top five for the all-time Wisconsin nontypical whitetail archery category and will be the new No. 1 nontypical whitetail archery record for Waupaca County.”
