W-F sweeps Falcons, wins Dig Pink match

The Weyauwega-Fremont volleyball team picked up a Central Wisconsin 8 Conference win over Amherst and also handed Waupaca a nonconference loss.

The Indians swept the Falcons 25-8, 28-26, 25-16 Sept. 18.

Team leaders included Kelsey Akey (19 assists, four aces); Mariah Hulbert (12 assists); Bailey Kapitzke (13 kills, six aces, and 14 rotation points); Danielle Austreng (nine kills, two aces); and Teal Tomaszewski (20 digs).

W-F 3, Waupaca 1

W-F won the first game 25-13, Waupaca took the second 25-23 and the Indians rebounded with 25-11 and 25-17 wins Sept. 17.

Kapitzke had 17 kills and Hulbert, Akey and Tomaszewski served up 14, 11 and 10 points, respectively.

The match was the Indians’ annual Dig Pink match to raise breast cancer awareness.

“With Dig Pink behind us, we can concentrate once again on our conference matches,” coach Rena Tomaszewski said.

The junior varsity and freshman teams will head to a quadrangular today (Thursday, Sept. 20) in Wittenberg, while the varsity team will compete Saturday, Sept. 22, in the Medford Invitational. The JV squad also has a tournament in Stratford that day.
