Sether, Volz place first, second

Little Chute and Tomahawk’s cross country teams won boys’ and girls’ championships, respectively, Sept. 27 at the Waupaca Invitational at Waupaca High School.

Team scores for the boys were Little Chute (64), Tomahawk (91), Waupaca (104), Winneconne (110), Iola-Scandinavia (111), Fox Valley Lutheran (116), Westfield/Montello (144), Menasha St. Mary Central (156) and Amherst (218).

Team scores for the girls were Tomahawk (76), Fox Valley Lutheran (88), Winneconne (90), Little Chute (106), Amherst (110), Weyauwega-Fremont (120), Waupaca (129), Iola-Scandinavia (200), Manawa (266), Westfield/Montello (271) and Menasha St. Mary Central (273).

Weyauwega-Fremont had two runners place in the top six in the boys’ varsity race, but did not field a full team. Corey Zeutzius placed fourth in 17:36 and Nick Thomas was sixth in 17:50. Also placing were Logan Kobiske, 43rd (19:56); and Mark Buchholtz, 60th (21:19).

Places and times for Waupaca were Mitchell Rotta, seventh (18:08); James Warren Jr., 11th (18:19); Eric Bolwerk, 15th (18:37); Ryan Weise, 22nd (18:55); Ryan Esch, 49th (20:28); Fritz LeBouef, 54th (21:10); and Ben Waitrovich, 55th (21:24).

Places and times for Iola-Scandinavia were Derek Peterson, fifth (18:05); John Faldet, 16th (18:38); Chase Przybylski, 19th (18:52); Javier Block, 34th (19:38); Matt Jarosh, 37th (19:45); Josh Elmhorst, 50th (20:39); and Westley Petersen, 51st (20:49).

Iola-Scandinavia’s Emily Sether and Weyauwega-Fremont’s Caragan Volz finished first and second in the girls’ varsity race with times of 16:18 and 16:26, respectively.

Other times and places for I-S were Natalie Gauerke, 36th (18:31); Shelby Trzebiatowski, 49th (19:17); Krystal Tysdal, 54th (19:57); Ellen Oligney, 60th (20:51); and Lindsey Cherek, 65th (22:35).

Other times and places for W-F were Alyse Peters, fourth (16:45); Jane Beyer, 11th (17:28); Amy Hingeveld, 50th (19:29); and Paige Kempf, 53rd (19:49).

Times and places for Waupaca were Michelle Petkovsek, 12th (17:30); Alisa Blank, 22nd (17:56); Bailey Wanty, 28th (18:14); Autumn Schultz, 33rd (18:27); Ashley Jeske, 34th (18:31); Taylor Fabricius, 37th (18:34); and Raina Eddy, 42nd (18:46).

Weyauwega-Fremont finished fifth in the boys’ junior varsity standings, while Waupaca and Iola-Scandinavia did not have complete teams.

Aaron Ebert placed 18th to lead W-F, while Trevor Fitzpatrick was 22nd, Isaac Danke 23rd, Glenn Walborn 28th and Luke Rohloff 29th.

Michael Schaefer placed 18th to lead Iola-Scandinavia, while Sam Jarosh was 33rd, Tyler Huffman 40th and Matt Ellie 57th.

Endeavor Achten and Nick Henneman placed 46th and 48th, respectively, for Waupaca.

Katherine Haen led Waupaca’s JV runners in the girls’ race by placing third, while teammates Raven Patzke was eighth and Kya Hooker-Moericke 27th. Emily and Brianne Durrant placed 30th and 32nd for Weyauwega-Fremont.

Waupaca and Weyauwega-Fremont placed third and fourth, respectively, among boys’ middle school teams.

Hunter Smith placed fourth for Waupaca, followed by Bruce Sternweis (seventh), Danny Esch (12th), Luke Wanty (17th), Jon Heidger (24th), Zack Thuerman (27th) and Erik Hemilla (28th).

Finishers for W-F were Chris Young (second), Duane Brazil (14th), Kolden Baehnman (21st), Levi Erdmann (25th), Chris Strehlow (29th), Sawyer Hintz (30th) and Brandon Bastar (31st).

Gunner Grenlie placed 27th to lead Iola-Scandinavia, followed by Erick Kriewaldt (30th), Garret Brown (34th) and David Schmies (38th).

Waupaca, I-S and W-F placed fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively, among middle schools in the girls’ race.

Finishers for Waupaca were Victoria Nowak (second), Mya Snyder (11th), Kristin Petkovsek (27th), Olivia Anderson (34th), Ivy Miller (36th), Emma Pagel (40th) and Rylie Hermanson (43rd).

Finishers for I-S were Leighten Fischer (third), Jada Beacom (18th), Payton Wester (26th), Haley Ullom (32nd), Natalie Rustad (33rd), Jessica Schaefer (45th) and Erin Thompson (49th).

Finishers for W-F were Marissa Mason (eighth), Sydney Bartel (17th), Morgan Monty (29th), Rylee Bartel (30th), Ally Spierings (35th), Kiley Stevenson (42nd) and Saylor Alberts (48th).

Waupaca, Weyauwega-Fremont and Iola-Scandinavia will compete hursday, Oct. 4, at the Weyauwega-Fremont Invitational. Races are scheduled to get under way at 3:45 p.m.
