Freedom Irish sweep EVC meet

Freedom’s dominance over other Eastern Valley Conference cross country teams this season continued at the conference meet.

The Irish boys and girls each won championships Oct. 13 in the rain at Green Lake’s Tuscumbia Country Club.

Waupaca’s boys’ and girls’ teams placed seventh and ninth, respectively.

Places and times for the Comet boys were Mitchell Rotta, 22nd (17:56); James Warren Jr., 31st (18:41); Ryan Weise, 34th (18:45); Eric Bolwerk, 36th (18:49); and Parker Sweeney, 45th (19:18).

Team scores were Freedom (18), Little Chute (46), Winneconne (127), Berlin (132), Ripon (144), Appleton Xavier (151), Waupaca (163) and Fox Valley Lutheran (167).

Places and times for the Comet girls were Michelle Petkovsek, 30th (17:58); Raina Eddy, 38th (18:23); Ashley Jeske, 46th (18:54); Bailey Wanty, 47th (18:55); and Autumn Schultz, 55th (19:28).

Team scores were Freedom (41), Little Chute (75), Clintonville (78), Berlin (92), Appleton Xavier (133), Ripon (141), Winneconne (153), Fox Valley Lutheran (186) and Waupaca (216).

Waupaca will host a Division 2 sectional race which also includes teams from Clintonville, Colby/Abbotsford, Fox Valley Lutheran, Freedom, Lakeland, Little Chute, Marinette, Medford, Mosinee, Northland Pines, Oconto Falls, Peshtigo, Seymour, Tomahawk and Wittenberg-Birnamwood Saturday, Oct. 20.

First- and second-place teams at sectionals, along with the top five individuals not on a qualifying team, advance to the State Cross Country Meet, which will observe its 100th anniversary this year Saturday, Oct. 27, at the Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids.
