Memorial ceremony in King

A rededication of the Grand Army of the Republic memorial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 26, at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King.

John Scocos, the secretary of Wisconsin Veterans Affairs, and state Rep. Kevin Petersen, are scheduled to attend.

Kim Heltemes, the Sons of the Union Veterans and McAllister’s Battery will be conducting the ceremony, which is adapted from a GAR service of dedication held in 1917.

The Grand Army of the Republic, which was an organization of Civil War veterans, was responsible for starting the Wisconsin Veterans Home.

The ceremony is being held as part of the veteran homes’ celebration of its 125th anniversary.
