Clintonville school groups active

The Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) at Clintonville Middle School (CMS) organized in September and is off to a fast start this school year.

Principal Tom Dechant said the PTO had not been in existence at CMS for several years. Through the collaborative efforts of concerned parents, teachers, and administrators, the organization was reborn this year and held its first meeting on Sept. 17.

The group organized a tailgate party during the week of homecoming, and several other events are being planned for the near future.

The upcoming events will be published in a quarterly newsletter, and will be included with the school newsletter that is mailed out on a quarterly basis.

PTO officers have been elected. They include: Cat Michonski (secretary); Wendy Leeman (coordinator for box tops, soup labels and milk caps); Stacy Bolen (treasurer); Jim and Sheila Duebler (volunteer coordinators); Jamie Bork (vice president); and Tammy Kettenhoven and Shannon Skar (co-presidents).

PTO meetings will be held the second Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. in the middle school cafeteria.

Student Council

This past summer, students came to CMS to be trained to lead the school. Student Council members will lead activities to improve communication, community relations and school pride.

Efforts so far include a Family Bingo Night (with about 100 in attendance); a school store to raise money and teach students business principles; and a Halloween Dance in cooperation with the PTO.

More information on PTO and Student Council activities will be featured in the school’s quarterly newsletter and highlighted during the “Good News” portion of upcoming Board of Education meetings.
