Comets, Falcons still alive

Waupaca and Amherst will each face defending state champions in the semifinal round of the WIAA football playoffs.

Both teams advanced to Level 4 of the playoffs with wins over Medford and Stratford in divisions 3 and 5, respectively. Waupaca defeated Medford 20-6 Nov. 2, while Amherst handed Stratford a 21-14 defeat Nov. 3.

The Comets and Falcons are 11-0 on the season and will play at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9. Waupaca will face two-time defending Division 3 champion West De Pere in Kimberly, while Amherst will play Colby at Goerke Field in Stevens Point.

The winner of the Waupaca/West De Pere game will take on Mount Horeb/Barneveld or Waukesha Cathlolic Memorial at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 16, at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison for the Division 3 state championship. The winner of the Amherst/Colby game will play Lancaster or Brillion at 4 p.m. Thursday, No. 15, at Camp Randall for the Division 5 title.
