Two arrested for burglaries

Waupaca police arrested two men suspected of multiple burglaries in the Waupaca area.

At 3 a.m. Friday, Waupaca police were dispatched to Nelson’ Strike Zone, 400 Oak St., in response to a possible burglary. When they arrived, the officers spotted a suspect leaving the bar and after a short foot chase apprehended him. He was carrying a loaded 9mm handgun.

The suspect, identified as Andrew P Akright, 27, Manawa, was booked into the Waupaca County jail.

Investigators found that forced entry had been made into the bar and someone had broken into numerous gaming machines.

Waupaca police have forwarded the case to the district attorney’s office for charges of armed burglary, possession of burglary tools, possession of stolen property, illegal possession of prescription drugs, entry into locked coin machines, carrying a concealed weapon, and theft.

Police have also referred Akright on charges related to break-ins at Club 22 and Courtside bar in Waupaca.

A second suspect was apprehended several hours later at his residence. Wesley A. Martin, 23, was booked into the Waupaca County Jail on multiple burglary charges.

Police believe both Akright and Martin are responsible for multiple burglaries and thefts throughout Waupaca County.
