Trucker wrestlers ready to storm the Conference

The Trucker varsity wrestling team is looking forward to a strong season this year, as they have three returning letter winners and a team of tenacious grapplers.

Head Coach Justin Mc Auly has been working hard with the team, hoping to improve on last year’s 2-5 Eastern Valley Conference (EVC) record and 3-12 overall record.

Juniors Dustin Zarnoth (138), Charlie Poppe (170) and Jake Reiter are all returning letter winners. Zarnoth and Reiter qualified for sectionals last year, while Poppe placed fourth in the conference at the 170-pound weight class last year.

Other varsity candidates include senior Marcus Engel (182); juniors Kelvyn Van Laarhoven (126) and Matt Hill (220); sophomores Sam Kroening (138), Tim Jerabek (138), and Shayne Collar (152); and freshmen Chase Poppe (145) and Chase Jung (160).

The Truckers lost Jared Henschel and Payton Dimick from last year’s squad.

“We hope to have at least two or three sectional qualifiers this year,” said Coach Mc Auly. “We aim to finish in the top five in the conference, with two or three conference champions.”
